Agreements aim to contribute to renewable energy development and attract investment into Central Asian nation

Shenzhen Energy Group has signed agreements to build and operate a 300-megawatt wind farm and a 300MW solar power plant in Kyrgyzstan.

The deals were signed during the state visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to China on February 5, when various investment agreements in the energy sector were finalized in Beijing, marking a new phase of energy cooperation between the two nations.

They were part of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Natural Resources of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Commerce of China.

“These agreements open new prospects for energy cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China, contributing to the development of renewable energy sources, attracting investment, and strengthening the energy security of the republic,” says a joint statement.

China has emerged as Kyrgyzstan’s leading trade and economic partner. In 2022, it accounted for 37% of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade, surpassing all other nations. Moreover, China remains the country’s largest bilateral creditor.

During the visit, President Japarov held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, culminating in the adoption of a joint statement aimed at deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
